    What it is

The Commission Report is the money page for the people who do your jobs. For every finished job it shows what the customer paid, what the job cost you, what the field worker earned, and whether that earning has been paid out yet.

You open it from the left menu: Reports›Commission Reports. The page is split into tabs across the top:

    Commission Report

One line per finished job (or per work order section), with totals at the bottom. This is where most of your time is spent.

    Payments

Every payout you have recorded to a worker, what it covered, and buttons to undo a payout if you made a mistake.

    Total Report

One summary line per worker for a date range, plus a private link and a ready-made text message you can copy and send them.

    Total Report History

Every summary report you have created before, with a CSV download and a View button that reopens it.

    External Companies

Only appears if your account uses partner companies that send you jobs. Shows what each partner is owed. See the External Lead Sources guide.

    Report History

Every commission statement you have emailed, who it went to, and buttons to reopen or resend it.

A field worker who logs in only ever sees their own jobs here, never anyone else's. If their role also has Limit to assigned records switched on, the page is trimmed down further to just the Commission Report and Payments tabs, with no worker filter and no way to record or undo a payout.

Your account may use different words for these people — "Technician", "Subcontractor", and so on. This guide uses the standard wording, Field Worker. Whatever you renamed them to is what you will see on screen.

    When to use it

    • Payday. Filter to last week, see what each worker is owed, pay them, and mark the rows as paid.
    • A worker disputes their pay. Open their jobs, show the line-by-line math, or email them their own statement.
    • Collecting cash. Find the jobs where the worker took the customer's money and still owes you the company's share.
    • Checking profit. Compare revenue and your share against last week, last year, or any period you choose.
    • End of month. Export a CSV for your bookkeeper, or create one summary report covering every worker at once.

    Before you start

A job only shows up on this report when all of the following are true.

    1. The lead status is Done. Anything still open, cancelled or in progress is left out completely.
    2. A field worker is assigned to the lead and that assignment is still the active one.
    3. The worker has a commission set up. Open Settings›Team Members, go to the Field Workers or External Subcontractors tab, open the person, and fill in Commission %. A worker left at 0% earns nothing on the report.
    4. You have permission to see it. In Settings›Team Roles, under Reports & Billing, the role needs Commission Report switched on. If a role also has Limit to assigned records on, that person only ever sees their own jobs here.
    5. To email a statement, the worker needs an email address on their record. Without one, the send fails and tells you so.

    Step-by-step

    1. Open the report and set your filters

    1. Go to Reports›Commission Reports in the left menu. It opens on the Commission Report tab.
    2. In Field Workers, pick one or more people, or leave it empty for everyone. Each name shows how many jobs they have in the current range, and Select All with Leads picks only the people who actually have work in the period.
    3. Choose a Date Filter Type: Created Date, Scheduled Date, or Closed Date. It starts on Closed Date, which is what most people want for payroll — the day the job was finished.
    4. Set the Date Range. The dropdown has Today, Yesterday, This Week, Last Week, This Month, Last Month, Last 30 Days, Last 90 Days, This Year, Last Year, past years, and a custom start/end. It opens on This Week.
    5. Optionally change Compare to — Previous period, Week over week (the starting choice), Year over year, or Custom period. This only changes the comparison numbers on the three cards, not the table.

    2. Read the table

The three cards above the table give you Total Revenue, Balance (your company's share) and Field Worker Share, each with the percentage change against your comparison period. The table below has one row per job, a TOTALS row at the bottom, and a clickable Lead ID that opens the job. Click any column heading to sort by it; click again to flip the direction.

    3. Mark commissions as paid

    1. Tick the checkbox at the start of each row you are paying. Rows already paid in full cannot be ticked. The checkbox in the header selects everything still owed.
    2. Click Settle Selected at the top right of the table — the button shows how many rows and how much money.
    3. Fill in Date, Method (Check, Zelle, Cash and so on), Reference (check number or transaction id) and Notes. All except the date are optional.
    4. Click Settle $…. Joby records one payment per worker covering their selected rows.

Made a mistake? The Status column has an Unsettle button on any row that has been paid. It puts that one row back to Unpaid and shrinks the payment that covered it.

Selecting and settling rows is a desktop feature. On a phone the report shows read-only cards instead of a table.

    4. Send or export

    1. Email statements: pick people in the Field Workers filter and an Email Report button appears right under it (it says Email 3 Reports and so on when you pick several). Each person gets their own jobs only, for the date range and date type currently on screen, with a View Online Report link inside the email.
    2. Download a spreadsheet: click Export CSV. It contains the columns you have showing, plus a totals line.

    How to check it worked

    • A job is missing. Open it and confirm the status is Done, a field worker is assigned, and the date you are filtering on falls inside your range.
    • After settling rows. The Status column flips to Paid, Remaining drops to $0.00, and a new payment appears on the Payments tab for the amount you entered. Expand it to confirm it covers the right jobs.
    • After emailing. A row appears on the Report History tab with the send time and the worker's email address. Click the open icon on that row to see exactly what they see.
    • After changing columns. Reopen the Columns menu, or export a CSV, and confirm the same set of columns appears.
    • After creating a total report. A row appears on Total Report History with the period and the number of workers included.

    Common mistakes

Expecting jobs that are not finished yet

Only leads with the status Done are counted. If a worker says a job is missing, that is almost always why.

Forgetting which date you are filtering on

The report starts on Closed Date. A job booked last week but finished this week will not appear in last week's numbers until you switch to Scheduled Date.

Hiding a column and then sending the report

Whatever you hide is also missing from the CSV, the email and the worker's online link. Check the Columns menu before you send.

Looking for an email button before picking anyone

The Email Report button only appears once you select at least one person in the Field Workers filter. And if that person has no email address on their record, the send fails.

    Assuming Total Report notifies people

It creates links and messages only. Nothing is sent until you email from the main report or paste the copied message yourself.

    Confusing Balance with Remaining

Balance says who is holding whose cash after the job. Remaining says how much of the worker's earnings you still have to pay out. They are different numbers and they will not match.

Resending an old link that has expired

Links go dead after the number of days set in Settings›Developer Reference›Labs. If a worker sees "Report Expired", send them a new statement rather than the old link.

The columns and what they mean

Click Columns above the table to tick or untick any of these. You must leave at least one showing. Your choice is saved to your account, so it follows you to your other devices.

    • Lead ID — the job's short code. Click it to open the job.
    • Field Worker — who did the work. If the job was split into work order sections, the work order number and section name appear underneath.
    • Created — when the job was created.
    • Scheduled — the appointment date and time window.
    • Closed — when the job was finished.
    • Service Type — the type of work.
    • Address — where the job was.
    • Total — what the customer was charged.
    • Field Worker Cost — parts or costs the worker paid for out of pocket.
    • Company Parts — parts your company supplied.
    • Ext. Source, Ext. Comm, Ext. Cost — the partner company that sent you the job, their commission, and what the job cost you to buy. These three only exist if your account uses partner lead sources.
    • Net — Total minus Field Worker Cost, Company Parts, and any partner commission and partner cost. This is the number commission percentages are applied to.
    • Commission % — the rate used, or Fixed when a flat amount was used instead.
    • Field Worker Share — what the worker earned on this job.
    • Payment — the payment method on the job.
    • Balance — who owes who (see below).
    • Status — Paid, Partially Paid or Unpaid, with the Unsettle button.
    • Paid — how much of this worker's share you have already paid out.
    • Remaining — how much of it you still owe them.

The columns you leave showing are the columns that go into the CSV, into the emailed statement, and into the online link the worker opens. Hide something and they will not see it either.

One naming difference to expect: the online version a worker opens labels the same two columns COMM % and YOUR SHARE, because it is written from their point of view.

How each worker's earnings are worked out

Joby uses the first of these that applies to the job:

    1. Work order sections. If the job has a work order with sections assigned to that worker, each section becomes its own row and pays out on its own rule. Open Work Orders, open the work order, and set each section's Payout to Auto (item costs), Fixed $ or Percent. Section payouts replace the percentage math for that job and worker — you will not see both.
    2. A per-job override. On the job, under Commission Override, set Commission Type to Custom % and type a rate, or Fixed $ and type an amount. Fixed amounts show as Fixed in the Commission % column.
    3. The worker's default rate. Otherwise Joby uses the Commission % on the person's record in Settings›Team Members, applied to the Net amount.

    Understanding the Balance column

Balance answers one question: after this job, does the worker owe you money, or do you owe them? It depends on who took the customer's payment, which comes from the payment method on the job.

    • Green, no minus sign — the worker owes you. They collected the customer's money, so they are holding your company's share of the job.
    • Red, with a minus sign — you owe the worker. Your office collected the money, so their share is still sitting with you.

Balance is about cash changing hands. The Paid, Remaining and Status columns are a separate thing — they track payouts you have actually recorded in Joby. A row can show that you owe the worker money and still say Unpaid until you settle it.

    Payments tab

The Payments tab is the record of every payout you have made. Filter by worker, or by Field workers (login) versus External (no login). Click any payment row to expand it and see exactly which jobs or work order sections it covered.

    Record Payment

Pay someone without going through the report. Choose a worker, see their open work with owed, paid and remaining amounts, type amounts (or click Settle everything), then save.

    Reverse

Deletes the whole payment. Everything it covered goes back to unpaid, and the worker's own view updates straight away.

    Unsettle

Inside an expanded payment, puts one single job or section back to unpaid and shrinks the payment, leaving the rest of it alone.

    Emailing statements

When you send a statement, the worker gets an email titled Commission Report with the date range, their own jobs in a table, and a View Online Report link. They do not need a login to open it, and they cannot change anything.

The send is also filed under Report History, showing when it went out, who it went to, which email address, and the period covered. From there you can reopen the same link or resend the email. Use the Filter by Field Worker dropdown to narrow a long list. Copies of these emails also land in your Emails inbox as part of that person's thread.

Total Report: one line per worker

    1. Open the Total Report tab.
    2. Set Date Filter Type and Date Range, then click Create Report.
    3. You get one row per worker: total jobs, finished jobs, total sales, total parts, company parts, balance, their most common service type, a link, and a Copy button that copies a short summary message you can paste into a text or chat.
    4. Use View Full Report to open the combined report, or Export CSV for a spreadsheet of all of it.

Creating a total report does not email anybody. It builds links and messages for you to send yourself. Everything you create is kept under Total Report History, where each row has CSV and View buttons.

    External Companies tab

If your account takes jobs from partner companies, an External Companies tab appears. It works like the main report but from the partner's angle: filter by company, date type and date range, switch View between Summary by Company and Detailed Leads, pick your Columns, and email a company its own statement. The cards at the top show total jobs, total revenue, partner commission and net balance. Full details are in the External Lead Sources guide.
