    What it is

The lead page is everything you know about a single job on one screen. At the top there is a summary strip with the lead number, the customer name, the status, the sub-status, tags and the quick action buttons. Below that is a row of tabs — the first one, Lead Details, holds the contact, service address, schedule and assignment cards. The other tabs hold visits, items, money, tasks, files and the full history.

Two things are worth knowing before you touch anything:

    • It saves by itself. Once a lead already exists, edits on the Lead Details tab are saved roughly a second after you stop typing. There is no confirmation message, so do not wait for one.
    • Changing the status saves immediately. Picking a new status in the strip at the top writes it straight away — unless that status needs a sub-status, in which case nothing is saved until you pick the sub-status too.

    When to use it

    • A customer calls back and you need the whole story — calls, texts, comments, estimates, payments.
    • You are dispatching: pick the field worker, set the schedule, then send them the job by text.
    • You are closing a job: record what was collected, mark it Done, attach the photos.
    • You need to correct something a caller got wrong — address, phone, service type, ad source.

For scanning or updating many leads at once, stay on the Leads list instead. The lead page is for working one job properly.

    Before you start

The dropdowns on this page are only as good as your setup. Configure these first, in this order:

    • Settings›Pipeline›Lead Statuses — your stages, their colors, and any sub-statuses (reasons).
    • Settings›Pipeline›Service Types — the list behind the required Service Type field.
    • Settings›Pipeline›Ad Sources — where leads come from, for reporting.
    • Settings›Business›Service Areas — so the address can match an area automatically.
    • Settings›Business›Custom Fields — extra fields you want on every lead.
    • Settings›People›Team Members — your office agents and field workers.
    • Settings›People›Team Roles — which tabs and actions each role can see (see What your role can hide).

💡 Tip: Your company may rename things. If an admin has changed the wording, "Lead" might read as "Job", "Field Worker" as "Technician", and "Office Agent" as something else. The buttons are in the same places.

    Step-by-step

    Open the lead

    1. Go to Leads in the sidebar.
    2. On a computer, clicking a row opens the quick view panel on the right (titled "Lead ID: …") with Details, Activity, Calls, Tasks, Time and Comments. To get the full page, click the panel title or the open-in-new-window icon in its top-right corner — or click the lead number in the list, which links straight there.
    3. On a phone, tapping a lead card opens the full page directly.

    Fill in the details

    1. Client Details — First Name, Last Name, Company, Phone, Second Phone, Email. The icons in this card's corner let you text the customer, call them, or open their client record.
    2. Lead Details — Service Type (required), Ad Source, Call Group, and the description box for what the customer asked for. If your company buys leads, an External Company picker appears here too.
    3. Service Location — Address, Unit, City, State, Zip, Country and Service Area. Start typing the address and pick a suggestion; the city, state, zip and time zone fill in for you, and Joby tries to match a service area.
    4. Schedule — set when the job starts and ends, or use an arrival window so the customer is told a window rather than an exact minute. The card shows the customer's local time zone and their current local time.
    5. Assign Office Agent and Assign Field Worker — both are on the Schedule card. Field workers without a login are marked External in the list.
    6. Press Send Lead (bottom of the Schedule card) when the field worker should be notified. See Assigning and sending the job.
    7. Set the status in the strip at the top. If the status has sub-statuses, a second dropdown appears and you must choose one before the change is saved.
    8. Press Update Lead at the bottom if you want an explicit save. Cancel takes you back to the Leads list.

    How to check it worked

    • Edits saved? Leave the page and come back. The values you typed should still be there. Nothing appears to confirm a save, so re-opening is the real check.
    • Status changed? The colored dot and label at the top match your choice, and the Activity tab shows the change under the Lifecycle filter.
    • Field worker notified? Re-open Send Lead — their card shows a green Notified badge.
    • Payment recorded? The amount appears in the Payments Received list, and the number on the Payments tab goes up.
    • File uploaded? It is listed on the Documents tab with its size and upload time, and the tab count increases.
    • Comment posted? It appears below the box with your name and the time.

    Common mistakes

Assigning a field worker and assuming they know

Assigning only records who owns the job. Nothing is sent until you press Send Lead and confirm in the Send Lead Notification window. That notification goes out as a text message only — it is not an email.

    Leaving a status change half-finished

If the sub-status dropdown is outlined in red and reads "Sub-status required", the status has not been saved yet. Pick the sub-status, or the lead stays where it was.

Looking for a "Notes" tab or a "Timeline" tab

Team notes live on Comments; the automatic history lives on Activity. Neither is called Notes or Timeline.

Typing an address instead of picking one

Choose a suggestion from the address list. That is what fills in the city, state, zip and time zone, matches the service area, and makes Directions and arrival estimates work.

Editing the quick view panel and expecting the full page

The side panel that opens when you click a row only has Details, Activity, Calls, Tasks, Time and Comments. Money, items, visits, documents and estimates are on the full page — open it with the icon in the panel's top-right corner.

    Deleting instead of cancelling

Delete is permanent and only admins have it. If a job fell through, move it to a Canceled or Lost status instead so it still counts in your reports.

    Wondering where a card went

Detail cards fold away when you click their heading, and Joby remembers that for next time. A folded card still shows a summary of its main values — click the heading again to reopen it.

    Page anatomy

    1. Summary strip

Lead number, created date, customer name, status, sub-status and tags. The customer name is a link when the lead is tied to a client record.

    2. Quick actions

On my way, Comment, Tasks, Estimate, Invoice, Marketing, Duplicate and (admins only) Delete. On a phone you also get Directions.

    3. Tab bar

Each tab carries a small number showing how many records it holds, so you can see at a glance whether there are tasks, payments or files.

    4. Detail cards

Client Details, Lead Details, Service Location, Schedule and Additional Information. Click a card heading to fold it away — a summary of its key values stays visible, and Joby remembers your choice.

    What each tab does

    • Lead Details — the contact, address, schedule and assignment cards described above.
    • Visits — extra trips this job needs. Add one for every return visit, with its own date and field worker.
    • Items — the parts and labor lines for this job. If the lead is already tied to an estimate, the items are shown read-only from that estimate.
    • Payments — job totals, costs, payments received and commission. See Money on a lead.
    • Tasks — to-dos attached to this job.
    • Time — clock entries logged against this job.
    • Activity — the automatic history feed. See History and comments.
    • Comments — notes your team writes for each other. Customers never see these.
    • Estimates — estimates created from this job.
    • Invoices — invoices created from this job.
    • Work Orders — only if your company uses work orders.
    • Expenses — extra costs such as permits, fuel or parts runs, on a card called Costs.
    • Service Plans — only if your company sells maintenance plans.
    • Documents — photos, PDFs and files. See Files, tags and marketing.

Not every tab appears for every person. Tabs are switched on and off per role in Settings›People›Team Roles, and Work Orders and Service Plans only show if your company uses those features.

    Status and sub-status

The status dropdown sits next to the customer name at the top, with a colored dot matching the color you gave it in Settings›Pipeline›Lead Statuses.

    1. Pick the new status.
    2. If that status has sub-statuses, a second dropdown appears reading Sub-status required and a message asks you to choose one. Nothing is saved until you do.
    3. Pick the sub-status. The status and reason are saved together.

⚠️ Two rules can block you. Some roles are not allowed to move a lead to Canceled — you will see a short message and nothing changes. And if an admin has turned on Require Field Worker Before Done (Settings → Admin → Developer Reference → Labs), you cannot set the status to Done until a field worker is assigned; a "Cannot Mark as Done" box explains this.

    Assigning and sending the job

    Assign

Use Assign Office Agent and Assign Field Worker on the Schedule card. Assigning on its own does not tell anyone — it only records who owns the job.

    Send Lead

Opens Send Lead Notification. It shows each assigned field worker with their commission rate, plus a Message Preview you can edit. Press Send to Assigned Field Worker to text it.

    On my way

Texts the customer that someone is heading over, with an arrival estimate when it can be worked out. You see the exact wording before it goes, and a warning if one was already sent.

    Duplicate

Creates a second job with the same customer, address and service details — handy for a repeat visit. Joby asks you to confirm first.

A field worker who has already been notified shows a green Notified badge in the send window, so you can see who has and has not been told.

    Money on a lead

The Payments tab holds a card called Job Financials:

    • Total Lead Amount ($) — what the customer is being charged.
    • Field Worker Cost ($) — what you are paying the person doing the work.
    • Company Parts ($) — parts your company supplied.
    • Add Payment ($) — record money as it comes in; everything recorded is listed under Payments Received, where you can edit or remove a line.
    • Default Payment Method — how this job is normally paid.

If your company buys leads, an External Lead Source Costs card lets you record what the lead cost. A Commission Override card below lets you keep the default percentage, set a custom percentage, or set a fixed dollar amount — with a live preview of the net amount and how it splits between the field worker and the company.

Smaller, one-off costs such as permits or fuel belong on the Expenses tab, not in Job Financials. The Expenses tab shows both together so the job's real cost is in one place.

    History and comments

The Activity tab is the automatic history of the job, newest first and grouped by day ("Today", "Yesterday", then the weekday or date). Use the buttons at the top to narrow it down:

    • All — everything.
    • Calls & SMS — calls and text messages.
    • Estimates — estimate activity.
    • Payments — money in and out.
    • Lifecycle — status changes, assignments and other record changes.

The Comments tab is where your team writes notes to each other. Type in the box marked "Add an internal team comment…" and press Add Comment. Each comment shows who wrote it and when. Comments are internal — customers never see them.

There is no "Notes" tab. Short context about what the customer wants goes in the description box on the Lead Details card; running commentary between teammates goes in Comments.

    Files, tags and marketing

    Documents tab

Drag files onto the page or press Upload — up to 25 MB each. On the mobile app a Photo button opens the camera. Each file can be renamed, downloaded or deleted.

    Tags

Press Add tag next to the customer name to label the job (VIP, Warranty, Financing…). Search existing tags or, if you are an admin, create a new one with a color.

If your company uses marketing campaigns, the Marketing button opens a Marketing & Automations panel above the form showing this customer's messaging consent, which campaigns they are in and which automations they are enrolled in.

    What your role can hide

Admins control all of this in Settings›People›Team Roles. If a button or tab described here is missing for you, this is usually why.

    • Which tabs a role can open, one by one.
    • Whether a role can edit the basic details at all.
    • Whether a role can change the status, and whether it is blocked from choosing Canceled.
    • Whether a role can change the assigned office agent or field worker.
    • Whether a role can use Send Lead or "On my way".

Delete is admin-only and is not part of role settings. Some teams also have contact masking switched on, which shows a placeholder instead of the customer's real phone number or email and hides the call button.
